About our service
Our Crisis Cafés are open every evening for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis. We offer a safe, homely, and welcoming space for those feeling distressed and in need of support.
What we offer:
- A safe haven: If you’re in crisis and need some time out or want to talk about what you’re going through, we’re here to listen without judgement.
- Accessing the service: You can currently only access our Crisis Cafés through the Nightlight Crisis Helpline (01923 256391). If you’re in distress and would like to speak with one of our experienced staff members, please call us during our opening hours to see how we can best support you.
- Face-to-face support: After discussing your needs with our crisis team, we may arrange a face-to-face session if it would be helpful. Please note, we do not offer an open drop-in service at this initial stage.
How can we help?
Our Crisis Cafés are staffed by a team of crisis support workers, coordinators, and volunteers who are here to listen and support you during your crisis. We understand that everyone’s situation is unique, and we’re here to help in a way that suits you, whether that’s through conversation or simply giving you time to yourself.
You’ll have choices about the support you receive, including:
- A safe space: A welcoming environment at our Crisis Café.
- 1:1 support: Practical and emotional support from our staff.
- Time for yourself: Space to pursue individual activities like reading, journaling, art, or watching TV.
- Crisis resolution: Help with finding ways to cope and move forward.
- Advice and information: Guidance and tips to help you understand and manage your situation.
- Signposting: Directing you to other services if needed.
- Onward referrals: We can help you access other services and resources for longer-term support.
